Lilva Bean (Pigeon Peas) Curry

Ingredients

1 onion, split in half

1 Tablespoon grated coconut

1 Tablespoon coriander powder

½ inch piece of ginger

3-4 garlic cloves

3 cloves

1 small piece cinnamon stick

¼ cup cilantro

Water, if needed to make a smooth paste

2 Tablespoons oil

½ teaspoon cumin seeds

½ teaspoon mustard seeds

1 red chili

Salt to taste

½ teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1 tomato
-
1 large potato, cut into small cubes

1 ½ cups fresh Lilva beans (pigeon peas)

For the beans
Directions
Masala paste
In a blender, add ½ of the onion, dry coconut, coriander powder, ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon and cilantro. Blend into a smooth paste. Add water if needed.
For the beans
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds and red chili and saute quickly. Add the remaining ½ onion and cook until translucent. Add salt and turmeric powder.
Add the green masala paste and red chili powder and stir well. Cook the paste until the oil separates.
Add the chopped tomato and potatoes and cook until the tomatoes are soft.
Add fresh Lilva beans and mix well. Add about ½ cup water.
Put the lid on your pressure cooker and cook for 7-8 minutes. Turn off stove and allow the pressure to release.
Serve with rice and roti.
