Ingredients

1 cup dried black urad dal, soaked for 4 hours

1 yellow onion, chopped finely

2-4 green chilis

4 garlic cloves, chopped

3-inch piece ginger, chopped

1 cup water

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon garam masala

1-2 chopped tomatoes

1/4 cup chopped cilantro
After beans are cooked; add
Directions
Heat 2-3 T. oil in a pressure cooker and add onion, chili peppers, garlic and ginger. Saute for 2 minutes. Add soaked dal and 1 cup water. Pressure cook for 20 minutes. Once pressure releases, remove lid and add spices, chopped tomato and cilantro.
Serve with warm roti and a salad.
Recipe Note
Salad:
2 Persian cucumbers, peeled and seeds removed, then cut into slices
1/2 red onion sliced thin
2 tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1 T. oil
1/2 lemon/lime, juiced
handful of chopped cilantro
