EVERYONE can make this bread! It is that easy. Just four simple ingredients to a crispy outer crust and soft delicious inside. You just need 3 hours to let it rise but, that's it. This recipe can be used to make rolls too - see Note below.
Ingredients
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/4 teaspoon yeast, active
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 1/2 cups hot water - use from your tap. *If you put your finger in the water it shouldn't burn you.
Directions
Combine flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl. Add water and mix until well combined. This dough will be sticky.
Cover with plastic wrap and keep in a warm place to rise - about 3 hours. (I like to keep mine in the oven away from drafts).
After 3 hours transfer the dough to a well floured surface. Fold the dough about 10-12 times and shape into a round ball.
Place the dough into a parchment lined bowl and let it rest for 35 minutes until you get the Dutch oven heated.
Place Dutch oven with a lid into your oven and preheat to 450°
When the oven reaches 450° carefully lift the parchment paper from the bowl and lower it into the hot Dutch oven. Cover with the lid and bake 30 minutes. Your parchment paper goes straight into the Dutch oven.
After 30 minutes remove the lid and gently slide the parchment paper out of the pan. Return to the oven, uncovered and bake another 10-15 minutes until the top is nicely browned.
Enjoy warm with butter!
Recipe Note
You can also make rolls with this recipe. Simply roll out the dough after the 3 hour rising period. Using a round cutter, cut out circle shapes. Put rolls in a round pan and cover with a towel on the counter while your oven heats to 450°. Bake for 20 minutes.
